Time to take a break

When was the last time you took a break, like a real break?

Can you remember the last time you spent some down time with your favourite human beings? Do you find yourself telling everyone how busy you are? What about finding yourself totally overwhelmed and uninspired?

Well, good news, you’re not alone and more people than you think are in the same boat. But there is a solution. Simply, take a break. Stop for a minute and enjoy a breather, cut yourself some slack and chill.

You are designed to need breaks

We often think of life as one continuous line that leads us from point A to B. Somewhere along the line we wonder how we ended up exhausted at point G. We have this idea that everything in life is supposed to happen in a linear fashion. We think we know where we are going to end up and what it's going to look like before we even get there.

This is the gap that needs to close if we ever want to be fully present and feel fulfilment in our lives. In the same breath, we are usually running so fast from point A to B and sprinting to point G, we forget to take breaks along the way. Taking these much needed breaks is where we notice where we came from, where we currently are and who we are with. We forget to regenerate and refocus our efforts since we’re too focused on the end result.

When the opportunity of a break comes, you have to honour it

You need to fully soak it up. Breaks return our mind back to ground zero and give us our chance to get centered. It's only natural that we start to feel out of balance with the happenings of life, work and all the other chaos surrounding us.

Allowing time to breathe and take a break is the place where we learn. We learn where our habits lie, what our tendencies are, what our patterns are and where we overwork ourselves. We learn are defaults are, where we spend too much energy and the most underrated, we learn why we need a break!

When we recognize why we need it, it becomes something to integrate into taking care of ourselves. Even when the opportunity doesn't present itself, if you have an inkling to take a break, then jump on it.

When we go full steam ahead, we burn out.

If you've ever taken a break from anything and then come back to it, you typically feel revived, rejuvenated and renewed. If we find an energy output that sustains us, we can maintain our work ethic, stay excited and be present. Taking a break is where you can share yourself whole heartedly in any capacity. Whether that's to enjoy the moment, spend time with a loved one or appreciate quite time.

Whatever form of break you take, be committed to it. Whether it's coffee on a sunny Saturday afternoon with a friend, to a weekend away in Whistler, or a whole week away from work in Florida, or simply laying on the couch with your partner watching hockey, whatever it may be, be in it. Be alone, be with your favourite people, do the things that fill your cup up and allow it to feel good.

Let's be really clear, we all deserve to live a happy life. If we are running too fast we miss the moments that truly matter. Slow down, take a break and you'll be sure not to miss out on the best parts of your life.

Currently on a break and sending you love,

Roz
