Things you need to know this morning: June 26

Start your day off right with things you need to know this morning. Notable birthdays and today’s forecast are at the bottom.

Things you need to know

1. Settlement reached in Philando Castile shooting

The family of Philando Castile have reached a settlement to avoid a federal wrongful death lawsuit. The $3 million settlement will be paid to Philando's girlfriend Valerie who was in the car when Philando was shot by police in Minnesota. The shooting gained widespread attention when Valerie broadcasted the incident to Facebook live.

2. Jordan Spieth wins the Travelers Championship in dramatic fashion

Jordan Spieth came about as close to a non-putt walk off win in golf as you can get on Sunday. The 23-year-old holed his bunker shot on the first playoff hole against Daniel Berger to pick up the win (once Berger missed his 50 footer for birdie). Spieth and his caddy killed the celebration as well, throwing a putter and rake high in the air before a mid-air chest bump.

3. The first Harry Potter book came out 20 years ago today

Fans all over the world are celebrating two decades of Harry Potter today. The series' first book, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, came out on June 26th, 1997, and the rest is history. The series went for seven books and eight movies to boot, becoming a worldwide cultural phenomenon.

4. Six dead, many injured after tourist boat capsizes in Colombia

Six people are dead and dozens are still missing after a tourist boat carrying around 170 people capsized in Colombia. Video captured the boat quickly going under water as many other boats and jetskis raced to help in any way. The search was postponed overnight due to thunderstorms in the area, but scuba divers have been called in to aid Monday's rescue efforts.

5. The Hockey Hall of Fame announces its 2017 inductees today

The Hockey Hall of Fame will announce its 2017 inductees on Monday. Teemu Selanne is a lock for the hall, but who joins him in the class of 2017 is very much up in the air. Some of the names that could join him include Mark Recchi, Jeremy Roenick, Chris Osgood, Dave Andreychuk, Daniel Alfredsson and Selanne's long-time teammate, Paul Kariya.
