The Calgary RCMP are piloting a new program to stop young people from distracted driving. They are calling it “Option 4,” a three-hour session offered to drivers 25 and under who have been recently ticketed for distracted driving the chance to take part in a course on the dangers of distracted driving.

Option 4 gave drivers the option of dealing with their ticket the normal way or by attending the session to learn why they should leave the phone alone while driving.

The course was held at the Speeders Indoor ProKarts, with part of the experience including drivers using their phones while driving the go-karts.

When drivers completed the seminar, Calgary RCMP officers and Alberta Sheriffs recommended participants’ distracted driving tickets be withdrawn.
