An iTunes gift card scam that is currently going around could out you a lot of money.
On the apple support website, the company stated people over the phone are asking others to make payments for such things as taxes, hospital bills, bail money, debt collection and utility bills.
The scam is then committed using different methods, including gift cards.
“The victim receives a call instilling panic and urgency to make a payment by purchasing iTunes Gift Cards from the nearest retailer. After the cards have been purchased, the victim is asked to pay by sharing the 16-digit code on the back of the card with the caller over the phone.”
An iTunes gift card can only be used on the iTunes store, App Store or for an Apple Music membership.
If you’re asked to make a payment using an iTunes gift, it is a scam.
Do not provide the numbers on the back of the card and report potential scams to the local police department.
If you’ve been a victim of a scam involving iTunes Gift Cards, you can call Apple at 1-800-275-2273 or contact Apple Support online.
