Man charged in Quebec City shooting

The man suspected of killing six people and wounding five others at a mosque in Quebec City on Sunday appeared in court Monday.

Alexandre Bissonnette, 27, was charged with six counts of first degree murder and five counts of attempted murder.

The horrific attacks occurred inside the Centre Culturel Islamique de Quebec in Quebec City’s Ste-Foy neighbourhood just before 8 p.m. ET, when a masked gunman entered the building and opened fire, according to witnesses and police.

Currently, a candle light vigil is being held in Quebec City. Large crowds are attending, reportedly spilling out onto the streets.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his wife Sophie are attending.

Similar vigils are being held across the country tonight.
