Baby food recalled due to deadly bacteria

Loblaw Companies Limited is recalling a specific baby because of the potential for dangerous bacteria.

PC Organics brand Apple, Blueberry & Green Pea strained baby food has been taken off the shelves because it may allow the growth of Clostridium botulinum.

Symptoms of the Clostridium botulinum toxin can include nausea, vomiting, fatigue, dizziness, blurred or double vision, dry mouth, respiratory failure and paralysis. In severe cases of illness, people may die.

The affected products are the PC Organics Apple, Blueberry & Green Pea strained baby food in the 128 mL container with the UPC code 0 60383 06292 7 and best before date 2017 OC 31.

This recall was triggered by a consumer complaint.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is conducting a food safety investigation on the product and others.
