Canadian police services are warning parents about a video game that could pose a risk to their children’s safety.
The Canadian Centre for Child Protection issued an alert, which has been shared by various police services in the country, regarding the popular gaming environment called Roblox.
While playing Roblox, children are encouraged to create adventures using their avatar, play games and connect with friends among the over 44 million active users.
The Canadian Centre’s Cybertip.ca program has received reports that children under 12 have been asked to meet up in person and have been sent sexually suggestive chat messages within Roblox.
Because of this, they are urging parents to be on alert when it comes to the direct messaging chat feature.
Through the chat feature, children can be exposed to inappropriate conversations or redirected to adult content on other sites.
Parents are asked to teach children to:
Check before using new apps/games
Not respond or click on messages or links from someone they don’t know
Tell you if they come across something or someone online who makes them feel uncomfortable
Ask your permission before ever accepting a request from another gamer to chat on another site
