Hit T.V. series 'Riverdale' showcases B.C. sets and actors

When Riverdale, a televsion drama series based on the Archie Comics hit our Netflix accounts, millennials across North America rejoiced. Our office has been buzzing about the show that depicts our favourite comic book characters in a very '2017' kind of way.

We won't share any spoilers, but something that we can celebrate is that the television sensation draws many connections to British Columbia.

The Riverdale series was filmed mainly in Vancouver and B.C. settings. Two Vancouver secondary schools act as the interior and exterior backdrops for Archie and the gang's dramatic scenes, Archie and Betty's family homes reside in quaint Vancouver neighbourhoods, and Golden Ears Provincial Park is the setting for a sinister event in the pilot episode.

Lord Byng Secondary School in Vancouver doubles as the facade for Riverdale High School.

Not only was Riverdale shot in beautiful B.C., but two of the show's actors hail from the province as well. Lochlyn Munro, who plays Betty's dad Hal Cooper, calls Lac La Hache, B.C. his hometown, and Cody Kearsley, who plays a very different Moose Mason from the one we knew in the Archie Comics, grew up nearby in Oliver and Penticton.

Proud British Columbians, you do not want to miss this comic book adaptation with local roots. We just wish that we could pay a real life visit to Pop's Chock'lit Shoppe!

Riverdale airs Thursdays on the CW and new episodes are added to Netflix every Friday.
