Entertainment for your weekend

The work week can be rough and it's almost time to shake it off. Here's your weekend entertainment lineup:

Lisa Anderson will be at the Art We Are on Saturday for a 7 p.m. show. The Calgary native is a singer-songwriter whose storytelling is inspired by her world travels and heartbreak. Her music is described as silly, fierce, perky and passionate. Cover is $5 at the door.

The carnival is in town! West Coast Amusements has the midway set up at Aberdeen Mall until Monday. Get a coupon good for one free ride online. Hours are noon to 10 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday and things shut down at 7 p.m. on Monday.

Chimera Theatre’s Freudian Slips is back with Strip ‘n Sip Improv, a night of sipping, slipping and laughter at the Stage House Theatre on Saturday. Find out if less really does equal more at this hilarious improv show that will, no doubt, have you in stitches.

Hosted by Andrew Cooper and featuring Brooke Ballam, Jessica Buchanan, Jeff Daniels, Allandra Gardner, Maddison Hartloff, Brittany McCarthy and Peter Navratil. Doors and bar open at 7:30 p.m. and the show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $15 and available at the door or online. The theatre does tend to fill up quickly. Take your ticket to Red Beard Cafe before the show and get access to a special dinner menu.

Local favourite, the Dave Coalmine Band, will be at the Grotto on Friday and Saturday. Doors open at 8 p.m. Cover is $5.

There’s No Such Thing as Trip Hop Tour is coming to The Office Pub & Grill. Meagan “Meganoke” Jacobsen from Texas will bring her soulful lyricism, sultry sound and mesmerizing trip hop rhythms to the pub on Saturday. Meganoke has worked with some of Austin’s most talented underground musicians and is an accomplished writer, dancer, painter and songstress. Check it out around 9 p.m.

Western Canada’s Theatre’s The Cure for Death by Lightning continues at the Sagebrush Theatre this weekend. Finals shows will be on Friday and Saturday. The show is an adaptation of Gail Anderson-Dargatz’s best-selling novel of the same name. The play is part of WCT’s RE-Imagine series in celebration of Canada 150. Shows are at 8 p.m. and a matinee is set for 2 p.m. on Saturday. Tickets are $38 and are available through the Kamloops Live box office.

Two of Kamloops’ finest DJs will be at Maurya’s Fine Indian Cuisine this weekend for Afro Caribbean Saturdays and what they’re calling the second edition of the “maddest party in Kamloops.” Drac and Nayas will be spinning all night. Cover is $10. Things get going around 9 p.m.

Kamloops Burlesque has its Fan Favourites show tonight at the Blue Grotto. All the best acts from the last year, voted on by fans, will return to the stage. The show also marks the troupe’s final monthly showcase at the Grotto. Future shows will not be as frequent so catch them tonight. The doors open at 8 p.m. and the show starts at 9:30 p.m. Entry is $5 at the door.
