Just over a year after American Idol aired its final episode on Fox, it’s been announced that the hit show will be making a return.
ABC will be reviving the show with a 16th season that will air in 2018.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the network outbid NBC and Fox for the rights.
Hosts and judges have not yet been secured for the show’s revival, although Yahoo reports that Ryan Seacrest doesn’t know if he’s able to host it.
Seacrest might be a little busy with his radio duties after he signed a three-year contract worth $73 million with iHeart Radio last week.
American Idol initially began airing all the way back in June of 2002 with the first season that was won by one of the show’s most successful contestants, Kelly Clarkson.
The show has produced some successful artists over the years, including Clarkson, Clay Aiken, Jennifer Hudson, Chris Daughtry, Adam Lambert, Jordin Sparks and Carrie Underwood.

The success of American Idol alumni took a steady decline as the show went on and seemingly lost a bit of its following.
Only time will tell if a reboot will help the show get back to some of its early days success.
