Sun Peaks Resort enjoyed their best July ever, according to their record books.
Hotel bookings were up 20 per cent, accounting for 8,700 rooms, up from 1,400 during the same month in 2014.
President of Tourism Christopher Nicolson says the main factor contributing to the booming summer season is planning events that showcase what the resort has to offer.
“Events such as the Canadian National Downhill Mountain Bike Championships, Mountain of Beer & Chili, or Summer Concert Series provide a reason to visit for a specific market,” said Nicolson. “Guests arrive for their particular event, and are enticed back by the vibe and activities like the new mountain cross carts, Segway tours, chairlift sightseeing, paddle boarding, the Farmers’ Market and other great attractions.”

The Province’s Resort Municipality Initiative Program helps to fund summer events to attract tourists to visit winter destinations in the off season. The program has increased summer traffic to Sun Peaks by 40 per cent.
“The dynamic village atmosphere also makes it easier for village operators to secure new business such as the many new group bookings brought into the resort this summer by the Sun Peaks Grand Hotel & Conference Centre. This new traffic benefits all the shops, restaurants, and other accommodators in the village,” said Nicolson.
With a number of music and sporting events planned for the rest of August and into September they hope to keep the momentum going.
