Parliament Protector Named Ambassador To Ireland

Kevin Vickers is a name that you might remember from October 2014 when he took down Michael Zehaf-Bibeau who is the gunman who stormed the Parliament buildings after killing Cpl. Nathan Cirllo at the National War Memorial. Vickers is the Sergeant-At-Arms for the House of Commons who retired from the RCMP in 2005 when he was chief superintendent.

Vickers has now been appointed the ambassador to Ireland effective January 19, 2015 when he presents his credentials to Michael Higgins, the President of Ireland.

Many Canadians hailed Vickers as hero including by Prime Minister Stephen Harper for stopping the terrorist attack in October 2014.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper said that Vickers has shown profound leadership and dedication to the security of Canada and it's national institutions. Harper described Vickers as brave and as a man of integrity.
