A man in his 20s has died after a fire in the BC Interior.
Blackpool Fire Rescue, which is based in Clearwater, said it was told on Wednesday afternoon that someone was trapped inside a home that was “fully involved” in fire.
“Despite initial efforts to locate the missing person near the doorway crews were forced back by fire flashover and intense smoke and flames and rapid fire spread,” the fire department said in a news release.
One person was evacuated for medical treatment, the release adds, but another person “tragically […] perished in the fire.”
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family at this time,” the notice reads.
The fire service said the home, in the 1400 block of Cutts Road, collapsed within 30 minutes of the initial report of a fire at 12:07 pm.
Fire Chief Mike Savage said the cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
"Fire crews will access the site when it is safe to do so, and an excavator will be required to move debris," he said in a separate news release.
The fire is being investigated by the RCMP and coroner.
