BC Corrections Services confirmed on Thursday night that a prisoner was found dead at the Kamloops Regional Correctional Centre (KRCC) on Monday, January 19, 2015.
Following the discovery of the body emergency services were immediately called and BC Coroners Services is now investigating the cause of death.
BC Corrections spokesperson Cindy Rose said that "any death in a BC Corrections centre is a tragedy, and each and every one is taken very seriously". Rose offered her condolences to the family and friends of this inmate.

A critical incident review has been launched to examine the facts of the incident, possible causes and where BC Corrections can make changes to help prevent a similar situation from happening again.
A 20-year-old inmate in KRCC was found dead in his cell in November 2014 and circumstances leading to his death are still under investigation.
