BC Children's Minister Recognizes Kamloops Social Workers

Kamloops area social workers are marking National Social Work Week with a luncheon with BC Minister of Children and Family Development Minister Stephanie Cadieux.

Social workers play an integral role in the delivery of world class health care in BC and local workers hope to highlight their work with a luncheon on Monday, March 16 with Minister Cadieux.

The BC Association of Social Workers hopes to reflect the commitment and passion held by social workers by addressing the growing social, economic, and health inequities in Canada.

“Once a year we gather over lunch to celebrate the achievements of the women and men, both past and present, who spent their lifetimes fighting to move our communities progressively forward towards a more inclusive and fairer society” says local BCASW branch board member Michael Crawford.

Crawford suggests that the high level of child poverty in BC shows BC residents that we need to drastically increase public investments in families and communities.

Merritt social worker and educator Ava Dean, will receive the Heart of the Grasslands Award for her service to the community.

Dean was involved in the founding of the BC Association of Social Workers branch in Kamloops and was instrumental in the development of the Bachelor of Social Work program at Thompson Rivers University.

Social workers play a vital role in helping those in communities throughout the province to overcome health and social challenges everyday.
