The Kamloops-Thompson-Cariboo area will receive funding to hire 106 young Canadians.
Kamloops area MP Cathy McLeod announced the funding on Wednesday, saying that the region will receive over $457,131 to hire 106 people from the Canada Summer Jobs funding. “Canada Summer Jobs helps students gain the skills and experience they need to be successful, now and in the future, while earning money for the upcoming school year,” said McLeod.
This program gives funding to not-for-profit organizations, public-sector employers, and small businesses with 50 or fewer employees for summer job opportunities. These jobs are for Canadians aged 15 to 30 years old who are full-time students and intend to return to study in the next year.
The Canada Summer Jobs program is estimated to create about 35,000 jobs in 2015 and to help employers address skills shortages.
