Hillside Drive transformed from traffic route into a waterpark on Saturday as Slide the City came to Kamloops.
A 1,000-foot inflatable vinyl slip and slide was set up between Hillside Way and Notre Dame Drive, as a sold-out crowd of 3,500 people showed up to slide down the hill.
Participants slid down three lanes on inner tubes for the first time Slide the City opened a slide on the streets of a Canadian city. Edmonton and Toronto also had slides on their streets Saturday.

“It’s a family friendly event that brings the community together,” said Event Director Rachel Thomas. “It’s completely unique, it’s never been done before.”
Slide the City is scheduled to visit 13 Canadian cities in 2015.
Participants could slide once for $25, three times for $45, or all day for $65. Anyone sliding more than once also received a free mouthguard, t-shirt, and tube.

Tranquille Farms initially reached out to Slide the City to bring the event to Kamloops, and the hilly terrain made for a perfect hit for a giant slip and slide.
“Everyone here is so nice,” Thomas said. “Everybody is so kind, my entire staff feels so at home with the people in Kamloops.”
