Important drainage improvements are slated to begin for the Guerin Creek channel in Kamloops.
The channel, which is located between Howe Road and Hugh Allan Drive, has suffered significant erosion and land slippage in the recent years and it was accelerated by intense rainfalls in June and July 2014.
The Guerin Creek channel receives both natural and urban drainage for much of the Aberdeen area and is an essential drainage corridor as development continues in the area. If left in its current condition, the channel will continue to experience erosion and the slope failure will encroach onto private property.
Kamloops City Council approve a contract worth $899,000 to Extreme Excavating Ltd. on Tuesday for the improvements of the channel.
The improvements are scheduled to begin in early August and are expected to be complete by the fall of 2015.
The project includes the construction of approximately 250 metres of armoured channel, slope failure repairs, and the rehabilitation of a storm culvert that crosses under Pacific Way.
Upon completion, the entire channel section from Howe Road to Hugh Allan Drive will be restored and protected from further erosion and associated damages.
