Cathy McLeod Turns Down Election Forum Invitation

The Union of Canadian Postal Workers are hosting an election forum on Wednesday evening.

Patricia Nauss, First Vice President of Kamloops local says the end of door-to-door mail delivery service in the city will be the focus of discussion.

“What Canada Post is saying, that we’re only going to lose maybe 50 to 55 per cent of our routes; the walks that we do outside. When you look at that, that’s still 35 people that won’t have routes anymore. But then we have our relief carriers, our vacation carriers that are based on how many people we have in the office. So, we’ll lose some of them,” said Nauss. “It’s sort of a down roll effect from just losing those 35 positions.”

She hopes residents will attend and voice their concerns about the elimination of door-to-door service in Kamloops.

Nauss says currently three candidates have agreed to attend the forum including Liberal candidate Steve Powrie, New Democrat candidate Bill Sundhu and Green Party candidate Matt Greenwood.

Nauss adds they have not heard back from Conservative candidate Cathy McLeod. She stated that due to a previous commitment in the Cariboo region she would not be able to attend the forum.

McLeod did not attend a forum held by Fair Vote Canada back in July, before the election officially began. She had stated “I prefer to have general debates, geographically spread throughout the riding, rather than single issue debates.”

Wednesday night’s forum will be held at Desert Gardens Community Centre on 540 Seymour Street at 7 p.m.
