Planning has begun for a new patient care tower at the Royal Inland Hospital.
Chief Project Officer Norma Malanowich says the need for a new surgical facility was determined during a master sight planning exercise that took place in 2011. Now the extensive planning phase for the new tower has begun.
“In that plan it will detail out the full scope of the project, the cost, the funding and really the timeline through design and construction,” said Malanowich.
The exact services that will be available will be determined through the planning phase. Malanowich says they are likely to include surgical space, operating rooms, in-patient areas, and other support programs.
Once the planning phase is complete it will be submitted for approval.
“Then we will have a completed business plan that we would submit into the Ministry of Health for consideration and ultimate approval by treasury board,” said Malanowich.
The planning phase is expected to take 12 to 18 months.
