“Are you in favour of the City of Kamloops borrowing up to $49 million to design and construct the parkade and performing arts centre complex?” You’ll be able to provide your answer beginning on Wednesday morning.
It’s the first day of advance voting in the referendum concerning the performing arts centre. Beginning at 8 a.m., Kamloopsians can begin casting their ballots at the Heritage House on 100 Lorne Street. Polls will close at 8 p.m.
Anyone over the age of 18 can vote, as long as they have lived in the province for six months and have lived in Kamloops for at least 30 days. For the full list of accepted ID visit Kamloops.ca.
Wednesday is the first day in two advance polling dates the city has scheduled. The second will take place on November 2nd and will also be held at the Heritage House from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
A number of groups and businesses have voiced their concerns and support for the project that would see a new performing arts centre at the corner of Seymour Street and 4th Avenue. The PAC Not Yet Committee was officially announced on October 22nd, voicing their concerns against the centre which mainly centred on its cost.
The YES Committee was established back in September in support of the centre which focused on its economic and cultural benefits.
If you’re still undecided, the city is hosting an information session at the Sandman Centre on November 4th, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and again from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
November 7th is the official voting date for the referendum. Voters can cast their ballots at 15 locations across the city from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
