Another group of Syrian refugees will begin a new phase of their lives in Kamloops on Friday night.
Two brothers will arrive at the Kamloops Airport at 7:27 on Friday.
The brothers are being sponsored by the Kamloops Islamic Association and Refugees and Friends Together (RAFT).
Martha Ashbough from RAFT says they were notified on Tuesday evening that the brothers would be coming. The Kamloops Islamic Association will be the ones handling the refugees housing situation.
“They’re coming really, really quick,” Ashbough said.
Just before the New Year, the first family of Syrian Refugees arrived in Kamloops.
‘It was quite exciting last time. When the family came out of the airplane, the greeting happened right in the door way, so we were holding up the other passengers trying to get off,” said Ashbough.
She says the first Syrian refugee family is still settling into their new lives. Busy with paperwork and other routine things, Ashbough says the children have begun attending school on part-time basis.
According to Ashbough, RAFT are looking to sponsor up to six more refugee families.
Ashbough expects around 20 people to be at the Kamloops Airport to welcome the brothers to the city. The public is also welcome to come and welcome the newest Kamloopsians.
