Scenes for upcoming film, Maze Runner: The Death Cure, will be shot in Cache Creek.
Filming is expected to begin on Monday, March 14th in the Cache Creek, Ashcroft and Kamloops areas.
According to Thompson-Nicola Film Commissioner Victoria Weller, crew have been in the area for weeks preparing landscapes and building sets for a large crew.
“They really liked the desert look of around Cache Creek and Ashcroft,” Weller said. “Right now, it’s the season when things are most brown and look very dead and scorched.
Weller says besides the scenery, the proximity to Vancouver, where the majority of the project is being filmed, is a major selling point.
“It’s very easy to get to, and the fact that you only have to drive 10 minutes to be in the middle of nowhere. That’s what they like. No sign of man. That’s a real hard look to come by these days,” she said. “The looks that they want here, they can’t get near Vancouver. They come up for that particular look.”
Weller expects the crew to be in the area for two to three weeks to shoot several scenes. The scenes will be second-unit work which means it will be primarily scenes with stunts.
Maze Runner: The Death Cure is the third installment of the film adaptation of a novel series written by James Dashner.
A call for extras has been made for the project. Males ages 18 – 22 are eligible for the roles. They must be out of high school, and physically fit. According to Weller, the role is for military type young men.
