Crews and cameras will be in Kamloops sometime in April to film scenes for the upcoming Power Rangers film.
Production company, Lions Gate, visited the Tournament Capital last week to scout locations for the upcoming reboot.
The Thompson-Nicola Film Commission announced on Wednesday that Kamloops will be used as the fictional town Angel Grove for the movie.
“We’re very excited to have a movie film in the streets of Kamloops because residents can watch the action. I think it will be a lot of fun,” TNFC Film Commissioner Victoria Weller said.
The locations of the filming are yet to be determined, but Weller says filming will begin in April for a span of 10 or more days.
The film stars Elizabeth Banks as villain Rita Repulsa. The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers will be played by Dacre Montgomery, RJ Cyler, Naomi Scott, Becky G. and Ludi Lin.
“Usually filmmakers are attracted to our open vistas or winding roads through our beautiful scenery. This year, the Film Commission is noticing an increase in attention from production companies looking to film outside Vancouver and in our city streets and in smaller community businesses,” said Robin Smith, TNFC Chair.
Filming for the movie began in Vancouver on February 29th.
