A 35-year-old man who had a suspended driver’s license and a loaded shotgun in the back of his vehicle is facing numerous charges after Kamloops RCMP stopped his vehicle for having no insurance.
The vehicle was stopped by officers shortly after 2:20 a.m. on Friday after they observed the vehicle did not have valid insurance.
The suspect did not follow instructions to stay still and tried to run away when officers attempted to handcuff him. The suspect was eventually apprehended and placed in a police vehicle.
Police found a fully-loaded sawed-off shotgun in the back of the vehicle. They also found extra shotgun ammunition, a large knife and a can of bear spray.
The man, who was previously known to police, is in custody and will go before a judge on Friday.
RCMP are recommending charges of possession of a prohibited weapon, resisting arrest, driving without insurance and driving while suspended.
