The Sun Peaks Health Centre scheduled to open in early 2017 is getting a boost from the province.
On Friday, Health Minister Terry Lake announced a $100,000 grant that will assist the Mountain Resort Municipality of Sun Peaks purchase new equipment for the health centre.
The health centre will be located on the main floor of a two-story building. The building will house a doctor’s office and examination rooms, plus a triage area for accidents.
The upper floor of the building will be used by Sun Peaks ski patrol staff.
“In 2014, we supported their work towards a plan for the new centre, and now this funding will help them outfit the centre with high-quality medical equipment, needed supplies and furniture, making the new centre a place that will support the health of Sun Peaks residents and visitors for years to come,” said Lake.

Earlier this month, Sun Peaks Mayor Al Raine told KamloopsBCNow construction of the building could begin as soon as the end of July.
“We hope to make our health centre one of the best-equipped small community clinics among mountain resorts in British Columbia,” said Sun Peaks Mountain Resort Municipality Mayor Al Raine. “We are focused on tele-medicine equipment that will make it easy for patients to be diagnosed by specialists in major centres while remaining in Sun Peaks.”
Sun Peaks Health Association are fundraising this summer in order to furnish the building with equipment and supplies. The equipment fundraising goal is $400,000.

The temporary health centre, which was built in 2002, will continue to serve the community until the new building is finished.
The modular office is currently only open on Mondays and Thursdays from 4 to 6 p.m.
