Suspicious man records Kamloops boy in bathroom

Kamloops RCMP are looking for a suspicious man who was seen at Riverside Park.

On Friday, February 24th at around 2 p.m., a boy went into one of the public washrooms in Riverside Park without a parent or caregiver.

Once inside a bathroom stall, the boy saw someone reach a cell phone under the bathroom stall and appear to record him.

When the boy asked the man what he was doing, he said “Nothing” and left the bathroom.

The suspect is described as having a slim build and appeared to be in his 30’s with blonde wavy hair. He was wearing tan-coloured pants and brown boots with stretch-laces.

After the suspect left the bathroom he walked to a faded red, older model van with a hatchback and drove away.

“Police advise parents to always accompany their young children into public bathrooms rather than wait outside of the washroom for them,” said Cpl. Jodi Shelkie. “If your child is a different gender, look for a family washroom to use.”

Kamloops RCMP are asking anyone who can identify the suspect or vehicle from Riverside Park to contact them at 250-828-3000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
