Kamloops RCMP responded to a firearm complain at 2:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
Caregivers for a 73-year-old man had went to his residence on Desmond Street, where the elderly man was distraught and allegedly making threats involving a firearm.
Police attended the scene and contacted the man by phone, asking him to come to the door.
When officers confirmed that the man had no firearms on him, he was arrested and taken to Royal Inland Hospital for observation.
A firearm was seized from inside the residence.
Charges against the man will be considered pending the outcome of his medical assessment.
