120 reports of thefts from cars during first half of May

Don’t forget to lock your vehicles!

From May 1st to May 14th, the Kamloops RCMP received 120 reports of thefts from vehicles.

Of these thefts, 90% occurred overnight and 84% occurred at residences.

Close to 70% of vehicles were left unlocked.

As a result, Kamloops RCMP are encouraging all motorists to take some simple steps that will help protect their valuables from being stolen from their vehicles.

  • Always roll up your vehicle’s windows
  • Always lock the doors
  • Always pocket the keys when you park your car
  • Park in well-lit areas
  • Never leave valuables in plain view

The RCMP is also asking all victims of theft to contact the police to report the vehicle that was broken into and the valuables that were stolen.

Crime Prevention Initiatives and extra patrols can only be assigned to neighborhoods where police know there is a problem and the problem is identified by victims reporting the crime.
