It has been two years since Tim Van Horn photographed faces of Kamloopsians in his epic Canadian journey to capture the essence of what makes our country such a special place and his travelling pavilion is returning this week.
The Canadian Mosaic Project is making a stop in downtown Kamloops on Friday, June 23rd. The interactive multimedia pavilion is a medley of thousands of Canadian portraits, text, music and flags. Visitors will also have a chance to be part of the ever expanding project.
Armed with a grand vision to unite people, Van Horne, an Alberta-based photographer and creator of the Canadian Mosaic Project, has taken 54,000 portraits of Canadians across the country. He embarked on the journey in 2008, crossing the country five times photographing everyday people.
The portraits and experiences he has captured have been woven together to create the mobile interactive pavilion on wheels that is travelling the country this year in celebration of Canada 150. The 150 Inspirational Stops journey kicked off May 19th in Red Deer and will end in Victoria in September 2018.
Visitors of the pavilion can also record their ‘My Canada’ moment, thoughts and Canadian experiences that will be woven together into a short documentary that will debut on Canada Day 2018. Van Horne will also be collecting portraits once again and expects 24,000 new photos will be created this year — work that will be used to create a new online mosaic
Check out the To Canada With Love Pavilion on Friday downtown outside the Kamloops Museum and Archives between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. There will also be various interactive games, arts and crafts, local artisans and live music from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
