Fire closes Merritt landfill for the weekend

An electrical fire at the Lower Nicola Eco-Depot has resulted in a weekend long closure.

The Thompson-Nicola Regional District says an early morning fire caused damage to the buildings at the landfill north of Merritt.

However, modified disposal and recycling services will resume on Monday, says the regional district in a news release.

The landfill in Logan Lake is the near alternative for those who require disposal services before Monday. The landfill is open from 8 am to 4 pm, Tuesday to Sunday.

“The TNRD appreciates your patience as we work to re-establish this critical service to the community,” says the news release.
