Starting today, the Kamloops Museum and Archives will be undergoing renovations

The Kamloops Museum and Archives (KMA), located at 207 Seymour Street, is now 65 years old and is need of some upgrades.

Crews will be giving the building a makeover as part of required building maintenance.

The KMA will be open during the renovations, however.

According to the KMA website, “the project aims to re-capture and bring forward the architectural heritage of the original ‘mid-century modern’ building.”

Some of the renovations include:

  • An exterior paint job
  • Repairs to damaged wood, removing aging signs and decorative features
  • News windows that meet temperature and humidity requirements to protect artifacts
  • Carpet replacement in the archives

Unfortunately, the well-known vines on the west side of the building will have to be removed to accommodate the exterior paint job.

“The removal of the vine was a sad necessity,” said museum curator, Matt Macintosh in a media release.

“It’s been a dynamic, living part of our building. We’ve been advised that its root system poses inevitable risks for the building.”

New greenery will be added at the front of the building to replace the vines.
