A 34-year-old man is facing numerous charges after attempting to flee from police.
A hotel employee on West Columbia Street called the Kamloops RCMP at 9 a.m. on Wednesday to report a suspicious male and female in a pickup truck in the hotel’s parking lot.
When an officer arrived, the truck was there but the male and female were not in the vicinity.
The officer checked the license plate and found it didn’t match the description of the vehicle it was on.
When the male and female returned, the officer questioned them about the truck’s ownership, which is when the male fled on foot.
He was located by another officer a few blocks away and was arrested without incident.
When the vehicle identification number was ran on the truck, it was found to have been stolen from Langley the previous day. A rifle and numerous break and enter tools were found inside.
The male suspect, who is originally from Chilliwack, is being held in custody to go before a judge. The female suspect was released with no charges.
Cpl. Jodi Shelkie called this incident “a great example of what can happen when a citizen calls the police when they see something suspicious.”
