The Telemark Biathlon Team finished off their race season with a bang, capturing several podium finishes at Burns Lake.
"Great races for everybody. You know sometimes the last race of the season can be the most difficult one, but we saw lots of great improvements in our athletes and they should really be proud of their performances,” said Lorraine Friesen, assistant coach Telemark Biathlon.
On February 11th and 12th, the Telemark Biathlon Team traveled to Burns Lake for the fourth and final competition of the Biathlon BC Cup series. Telemark came out strong with Natalie Benoit and Makenna Banser placing first in their categories. Kira Friesen placed second for junior girls on both days. Colton Hay placed second for senior boys on both days.
The season is over for all of the racers except four who have been chosen to represent the club at Nationals next month.
Colton Hay, Danica Ariano, Natalie Benoit and Justin Mackenzie will be competing at Nationals on March 6th in Canmore.
But if you’ve ever wanted to try skiing and firing a gun, now’s your chance. The Telemark Biathlon Club is hosting a demo day this Sunday, March 5th.
"They get one-on-one coaching with biathlon coach, making sure everything's safe and everyone's happy and getting some great instruction so they can try out the sport of biathlon. so they get to shoot a little bit and they get to ski a little bit ...and they get the feeling of what it's like to be a real biathlete," said Friesen.
The event starts at 9:30 a.m. this Sunday. There is no previous experience required for the public to take a shot at being a biathlete.
