Fort St.John Man Still Recovering After Dog Attack One Month Later

The man who was viciously attacked by pit bulls in his Fort St. John home is still on the road to recovery.

Robin Elgie and Wendy Lee Baker were seriously injured when the dogs entered their home and attacked the couple on Christmas Day. Elgie had severe damage to both of his arms before the police eventually shot and killed the dogs.

Elgie was flown to an Edmonton hospital in critical condition. He has undergone a number of surgeries since then and is currently recovering at the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital in Edmonton.

Family friend Kim Smith Babcock posted an update on Elgie’s condition on Sunday – one month after the incident.

“He is able to get up and walk around, watch TV in the common room and have lunch at the cafeteria. He is able to feed himself!” the update reads.

The damage to Elgie’s arms was so severe that at one point the family was worried he would lose both hands.

“He still needs help dressing as his thumbs are still bandaged up tight and he doesn’t have use of them yet. His fingers have enough movement to hold a fork, but he still has a long way to go.”

They are unsure when Elgie will be transferred back to Fort St. John.

Babcock began a GoFundMe campaign which has raised over $23,000. The money will help Elgie and Baker with medical expenses and cleanup of the home.

It is still unclear who the dogs belonged to or how they got into the home. Police in Fort St. John continue to investigate the incident.
