Castlegar Man Killed in Avalanche Known as Extreme Snowmobiler

The BC Coroners Service has identified the man killed in an avalanche near Castlegar on March 14th.

Castlegar resident Daniel Joseph Davidoff, aged 45, was killed after being struck by an avalanche near the College Creek Forestry Road on Monday. A family member reported Davidoff missing after he failed to return as planned from a solo snowmobiling trip into the mountains.

Davidoff was known as the “Krazy Canadian” by friends as the extreme snowmobiler enjoyed pushing the limits and exploring dangerous terrain. Davidoff is the only two-time winner of the Xtremey Award for the best performance in a snowmobile film and he is known to frequent some of the nastiest chutes in B.C. He has starred in the Thunderstruck, Extreme Team, and Extreme Velocity film series and would offer snowmobile tours to select riders.

Just hours before his death, Davidoff posted a photo to Facebook showing him catching some air while snowmobiling, with the caption “Norm. Look I can fly. Lol.”

Davidoff is the 12th snowmobiler to die this winter in an avalanche in the province. An outpouring of support can be seen on many snowmobiling forums and websites as the community mourns the loss.
