Trader Joe's brand Mediterranean Hummus is being recalled in B.C. due to a possible Listeria contamination.
Although no illness have been reported in connection with the product in Canada, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency says the recall here was triggered by a recall in another country.
Yesterday, Bakkavor Foods USA recalled two flavours of Trader Joe’s hummus from American grocery stores, also because of listeria concerns.
One of those flavours, Mediterranean, was sold at at least one grocery store in B.C.
The CFIA says it is conducting a food safety investigation, which may lead to the recall of other products. In the meantime it is advising consumers to throw out any of the recalled product that’s in their home.
Food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes may not look or smell spoiled but can still cause illness. Symptoms can include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache and neck stiffness. In severe cases of illness, people may die.
