A B.C. teacher is in hot water for showing his students the video for Lonely Island’s “I’m on a Boat.”
The Ministry of Education took action by suspending Cory Ray Steeves, who was filling in for a teacher on leave in Vancouver in the fall of 2015.
At that time, Steeves showed both a Grade 10 english class and a Grade 12 english class the music videos for “Big Bad Wolf” by Duck Sauce and “I’m on a Boat” by Lonely Island while teaching a unit on satire.
Steeves reportedly told students that the videos might be offensive and if anyone wanted to leave they could. One student left the room.
According to the Commissioner for Teacher Regulation, the video for “Big Bad Wolf” shows people with human heads as their genitalia in a variety of situations including urination and sexual acts. “I’m on a Boat,” consists primarily of profanity, says the report.
Steeves was faced with a letter of discipline and faced a five-day suspension without pay.
