Over 50 cats suffering from an array of medical issues were seized by the BC SPCA on Monday from a property in Chase.
In total, the BC SPCA seized 59 injured and neglected cats, including 47 adult cats and 12 kittens.
The cats were being kept in an outdoor camper and a travel trailer.
“The cats were being kept in a filthy environment, with feces everywhere and high levels of ammonia from the urine,” said Kathy Woodward, senior animal protection officer for the BC SPCA. “There was dense mold in the trailer and camper and the animals did not have access to food or water.”
According to Woodward, the cats were thin, dehydrated and suffering from eye infections, trauma and other issues.
The BC SPCA branches in the Okanagan and the Kootenays are currently assessing and treating the adult cats while the kittens are under veterinary care.
The SPCA will be recommending charges of animal cruelty in the case.
