UPDATE: The Coquihalla is now open in both directions

(UPDATE: 8:05 a.m.) - Crews have now opened the Coquihalla to both southbound and northbound traffic.

Both northbound lanes are fully open to traffic, while one southbound lane remains closed at this time.

There are still some delays for southbound travellers.

(Original story: 6:20 a.m.) - Half of the Coquihalla has been re-opened to traffic as of Monday morning.

More than 24 hours after it was initially closed, crews have opened the road to northbound traffic.

Southbound traffic remains completely closed, but DriveBC hopes to have southbound traffic open by 8 a.m.

The highway was shut down early on Monday morning due to a dangerous goods fire about 25 kilometres south of Merritt.

The fire also prompted an air quality advisory for the region, which remains in effect.

There are alternate routes available via Highways 1 and 8 (Merritt) or Highways 3 or 97 (Kelowna).

The next update will come at 7 a.m.
