Canucks to wear rainbow-coloured pride jerseys

The Vancouver Canucks will be sporting jerseys with a slightly more colourful look to them prior to next Tuesday’s home game against the Detroit Red Wings.

Canucks players will wear special rainbow-coloured pride jerseys as part of You Can Play Night.

You Can Play is an initiative that encourages safety and inclusion for all who participate in sports, including LGBTQ athletes, coaches, and fans.

The project was launched in 2012 in honour of Brendan Burke, the son of former Canucks general manager Brian Burke, who passed away in a car accident shortly after coming out. The mission of You Can Play is to ensure safety and inclusion for all who participate in sports, including LGBTQ athletes, coaches, and fans.

The night coincides with the NHL’s league-wide Hockey is for Everyone initiative where each team is hosting a night to celebrate the diversity of hockey’s athletes and fans.

The Vancouver Pride society will also be on-hand at Rogers Arena on Tuesday, and there will be a number of unique game presentation elements throughout the evening.
