Former CFLer turned boxer speaks out after the fight that led to the death of his opponent

Adam Braidwood took to social media this week to offer his condolences to the family of Tim Hague.

Hague was killed following a boxing match between him and Braidwood in Edmonton last Friday.

Braidwood won the match by knockout and the following day Hague’s family released a statement that said he was in hospital in critical condition.

On Sunday, the family passed along the news that nobody wanted to hear.

“It is with incredible sadness, sorrow and heartbreak to report that Tim has passed away today," said the statement. “He was surrounded by family, listening to his favorite songs.”

The following day, Braidwood broke his silence with a video he posted to Twitter.

“Tim and I were friends, we spoke beforehand, we just wanted to make a beautiful fight for everyone and that’s what this is all about,” said a visibly emotional Braidwood. “It’s one of those things that everybody saw me celebrating, but nobody saw me pick up Tim and carry him to the corner and tell him I love him."

Braidwood asked everyone to try and help Hague’s family in this tough time, either by sending them a message or donating to the GoFundMe set up in Hague’s name.

So far more than $41,000 has been raised to help Hague’s family cover funeral expenses and anything else that comes up.
