New Google Docs scam is spreading like wildfire

If someone invites you to edit a file in Google Docs, don’t do it.

A new scam is making the rounds online and it’s targeting people through their e-mail.

According to Gizmodo, e-mail users will receive an invitation to edit a Google Docs file, much like you would if you were helping a friend out with a paper.

The link will even take you to a login screen that looks exactly like the one you’d see if someone invited you to edit a real document.

The page even has a legitimate looking Google.com URL and an authentication process.

If you get an e-mail like that, delete it immediately unless you are beyond 100% sure that it’s a legitimate request to edit a document from someone you know.

Gizmodo writes that a couple of the big signs for this scam is how the e-mail is addressed to “hhhhhhhhhhh” and doesn’t look quite like the ones that come from Google.

It’s not yet clear who is behind this cyber attack and Google has yet to comment on the situation.
