Hello Friends! As we come into the last few weeks of fall and the weather shifts colder, comfort food, big comfy clothes, and the holiday indulgent mindset take the driver's seat (at least for some of us). What do you do to ensure your wellness plan remains a top priority through the next 6 weeks? January 1st is really just another day like any other, except for the awesome new calendar. Why has it... like ‘Monday’ become that start line in so many people's vocabulary? Why don’t we wake up and say... as our feet touch the ground, TODAY I will honour my body, mind, and soul with purposeful movement, purposeful stillness, and purposeful nourishment. Or maybe, we do ONE of those three on purpose. Make a list of priorities that you REALLY want to do... For YOU... Let’s start with five!
Perhaps you want to start journaling... A powerful tool to bring clarity to ANY situation and all you need is a pen and paper. It doesn’t have to be fancy, write down the stuff that’s spiraling through your head and heart. If you exercise regularly you know the benefits outweigh the resistance to it. It too doesn’t need to be fancy... A walk/hike with a friend. A fitness class at one of a number of facilities in town... I have a favourite of course... Wink, wink! A yoga class to encourage breath and healing… Again, I know a place! Perhaps eating more real food, and avoiding processed, surfaces as you build your attainable list. On the flip side of this conversation... Recovery, stillness... rest. Incredibly overlooked and yet one of the most important. We live such high stress lives every single day. Taking time to recharge and find ways to quiet the busyness. It’s ok to take care of YOU FIRST... It really is… I promise. These watches we all wear (I have one too) tell us how much we move and yet don’t encourage us to take a rest day... It’s always... Go, go, go... Do it again! A technique I have just started that I really like is writing myself a love note at night, so I see it as I’m waking, I’ve been leaving it on the bathroom counter. Today it said simply, "Good morning, have a beautiful day! Be patient and kind to yourself today! I love you! PS. Drink more water!" Like a note I would leave for someone I love the most in the world. It was corny for sure, but I had forgotten about it until I went to brush my teeth. Then I had that moment of "ah-ha" (Oprah style)… oh, yah... I did this to hold myself accountable, to remind myself to be loving towards ME. How do you hold yourself accountable? Do you rely on others to do that for you? Are you able to instill a couple of new rituals/habits that help you stay or find the never-ending... Always evolving... Wellness path? NOW is a great time to start... Right NOW! Make the list, write yourself some love notes, put them in a jar and read one every morning. Accountability is tricky sometimes so don’t get too caught up in the cycle of "oops," shoulda, woulda, coulda... Again it’s ok... I promise. It’s your life friends... YOUR beautiful life... It’s waiting... LIVE IT NOW! (you got this... feel my hug and high five.. right...NOW).
