Live it Now: Distractions

Hello friends! As I write this old man winter isn’t giving up! I kind of like the symbolism of his chutzpah (had to look up how to spell that)! "I’M NOT DONE YET!" While some of us may be sooooo over it and can’t wait for the spring solstice, I have to high five him on his ability to distract us all with his chilly and undeniable presence. Nature is often a muse for the words that tumble onto the page for me... I’m feeling distracted myself by the dreariness of it and I love winter... Yet I admit... I was WOWed by that beautiful snowfall!

February can be a time when people start to lose their focus and drive towards some of the goals they may have started. We all get distracted... What are yours? Superbowl was a big one for many! Overindulgence at its best. The weather can most definitely hinder our best-laid plans... Even on a sunny day when the soft warmth can lull you into a dreamy state. Remind yourself of your goals and why you originally made them. Are your people supportive or distracting? Do they support you in ways that encourage you to find your way through the distractions with love and patience? It can be very hard to avoid distractions... One can spiral down the NetFlix rabbit hole and lose four hours of an afternoon and not even realize it. I am very easily distracted, even in yoga classes I’m teaching... I’ll chase the proverbial squirrel for a few postures and reel myself back in. Even when we speak sometimes, we can become distracted by thoughts and not even remember what we were saying, we’ve all done it... Paused and said... "what was I saying, I got distracted." Most often these days a hum of our devices letting us know we have a notification of some kind... Purposefully turn it off (give it a go, it helps a little) If we could identify more of these distractions, could we feel less cluttered as we remove them? Staying true to our path... Our goals... Our dreams. If you find yourself tiptoeing away from your wellness journey and settling into habits that don’t nourish you from the inside out... Perhaps you find a BIG distraction to draw you back in! Throw yourself into something NEW, even a bit scary... That will ignite that fire within. I can simply be journaling and not have a clue what to write... So I’ll start repeating on paper "I’m so distracted..." Within just a few minutes that turns to... "Why am I so distracted..." And then I become distracted by the things that distract me... Ah ha ha... The struggle is hilariously real! I’m sure you get the point... Look at what distracts you... Are they precious moments of a sleeping puppy or your favourite song in your playlist... Are they the kind of distractions that leave you breathless or beating yourself up?

Just notice them, maybe we can shift some of those distractions towards maintaining a healthy lifestyle? A more patient heart? A more open ear to listen completely? All of these for yourself and others. YOU are worth the effort... Thwart off those cumbersome distractions and live YOUR life... It’s waiting... LIVE IT NOW!
