Hello friends!
Hope you all enjoyed your long weekend with those who brighten your world! It has been a particularly tough start to the cold and flu season in my circle.
Even a quick jaunt to Vancouver and everyone was either recovering or just getting infected. What a doozy this one has been.
It has been hard to watch my fit family be taken down like tin soldiers under the heavy hand of a toddler in full tantrum. I am at this point... virus free and have not done anything different this year.
So many have voiced, ‘I never get sick’... I echo that, but when I do my life changes dramatically.... and it’s just a flu or cold bug.
It’s not life-threatening, this isn’t the big stuff so many others are burdened to carry. This is just cold/flu season.
Does it leave you whining? Sulking? Completely lethargic? How do you help yourself through these times? Are you as patient and caring with yourself as you are the ones you love and care for the most?
I think not, and I’ve been witness to some just pushing through when they really should be on the couch under a warm blanket and drifting through one Netflix episode after another until they find the strength to shower.
It’s just a ‘bug’ after all.
Give yourself permission to be sick, to surrender to it for a couple of days, to let your body adapt and then take it easy. No big workouts or stressful events. Ease back into your usual routine. It’s ok.. I promise, your peeps will understand and appreciate you not sharing your sneezes and hacks.
It’s so much easier to ‘baby’ others than it is ourselves. We need it too, maybe more so. That dialogue...'suck it up’ may not be the best advice to self. Rest, nutrition, hydration.... repeat. I know you all get this, but we are so so SO bad at self-care.
Do you have any secret techniques you want to share? Please do!
Oregano oil, essential oils, hot bath, hot buttered rum? Schedule some YOU time before you get too sick to do anything fun.
Make YOU a priority! Recharge!
It’s YOUR life... it’s waiting... live it now!
