Live it Now: The art of receiving

Hello friends!

The past several days have been full of lessons worth sharing, in my humble opinion.

I am not great at receiving compliments and I’m sure I’m not alone here. It’s so much easier to give them. Honestly to give in general. Just give, give, give until somehow, we’ve become bitter towards the world because it just takes, takes, takes.

But no, it’s us (I’m talking about myself, just so we’re clear).

Sure I love to give, help others feel better and to see their amazingness the way I do, how could they not … they’re amazing after all.

I’ve talked to my inner circle about this trait I have, but to say it here… to own it… I hope it helps me become more receptive to the love others want to share with me, and that I can receive it without expectations of giving something back or returning the compliment.

To just say.. simply…thank you.

Allowing the person who is giving to be valued and acknowledged, not dismissing their comments (and they are so nice), by brushing them off with a redirect.

It also allows me the gift of receiving it openly and feeling the genuine warmth and kindness it’s wrapped in.

Friends surprised me on a mountaintop in the sunshine and I was completely overwhelmed for days by the sincere compassion surrounded by them "filling my cup" since I was giving so much to everyone else.

I could barely accept their generosity because somehow I didn’t understand how they could love me so honestly without me having to do anything but receive their kaleidoscope of joy.

I am so humbled by it, graciously saying thank you to them every day since without having to say the words. They know… unconditional kindness is cool like that.

Today we were at the Kamloops Marathon as business owners, volunteers at our aid station at the 28km marker and relay participants.

I ran the last leg and was so honoured to be able to support my running community as best I could.

When it was my turn to run, coming into the finish line I was, again, overwhelmed by the cheers and people yelling my name… is that me they’re clapping for? We didn’t win, I didn’t break any record… it’s just me.

Well how about that, I’m doing pretty good here… I thank them and embrace it all.

A super talented friend made me a gorgeous art piece for the Oxygen studio, and it is hands down the best thing I’ve received at the end of a race! Who needs a medal when you have friends who love you this much!

My community… Kamloops… they like me.. they really like me. And I like them right back!

How about them apples, eh?

Thank you for all your support… I do deserve it… right?!? Just like you do!

Be careful what you wish for… it could so easily come true!

It’s your life.. it’s waiting… LIVE IT NOW!
