As a yoga instructor, I want to be aware of who might be coming to my class and what they may be dealing with. Yoga Outreach provides the language and education necessary to teach not only the general population, but also those who may be dealing with trauma or other mental health issues." More training Reviews can be found here: https://www.facebook.com/pg/YogaOutreach1/reviews/?ref=page_internal About the instructor Nicole Marcia has taught therapeutic yoga classes and offered individual sessions to trauma survivors since 2004. She trains yoga and healthcare professionals in the trauma-informed yoga theory and techniques required to support trauma survivors in their healing, long-term stability and recovery. In 2009, she was awarded a master’s degree with a specialization in yoga therapy from Lesley University in Boston, MA. She was employed by the Provincial Health Services Association at their Burnaby Centre for Mental Health and Addictions as a yoga therapist from 2008 - 2017. She is the Program Director for Incorporating Yoga as a Trauma-informed Practice to Enhance Drug Treatment Outcomes for Justice Involved Youth as well as a training facilitator and mentor with Yoga Outreach. She is a faculty member at Ajna Yoga and the Vancouver School of Yoga and is an instructor and project coordinator in the Langara College Continuing Studies Holistic Health Department (yoga program). She teaches at Onsite, the treatment arm of North America’s first safe injection site in Vancouver’s downtown east side and is a member of Bridge for Health and the Breathe Network which connects survivors of sexual violence with healing arts practitioners.  About Yoga Outreach Yoga Outreach partners with volunteer yoga instructors, community organizations, social service agencies, and correctional facilities to provide mindfulness-based yoga programming to often overlooked adults and at-risk youth. Yoga Outreach programs are strengths-based and trauma-informed, serving men, women, and youth facing challenges with mental health, addiction, poverty, violence, trauma, and imprisonment. What makes a Yoga Outreach class different from a regular yoga class, aside from the setting, is the emphasis of experiencing one’s body as one’s own. This is achieved through the use of invitation, choice, and inquiry, rather than direction and instruction.  We offer students an opportunity to develop safe and compassionate relationships with their bodies through mindful movement and breathing techniques, providing tools to draw from in order to self-regulate and manage daily circumstances.
