BC Wildfire Updates

Elephant Hill (formerly known as Ashcroft Reserve)

This fire is currently 58363.0 hectares (estimated). Ground crews and heavy equipment will continue to focus on building fuel breaks in an effort to protect property and values that are adjacent to the fire.

Firefighting efforts have been helped with cooler weather and higher humidity, and lower fire behaviour (primarily rank 2 with pockets of rank 3 as the fire finds remaining fuel pockets within the existing perimeter). There has been no significant growth to the fire perimeter (except from more accurate mapping of past growth), and the fire's northwest corner remains approximately 12 km from Clinton.

Crews work to build handguard in the southeast corner where dozers cannot access, and prepare for ignitions as conditions allow to further secure the protection of ranch lands and Cache Creek.

Specialists continue with assessing danger trees to ensure crew safety, and ground crews continue with mop-up and patrols in the southern portion of the fire and along the west flank(Division A and C).

The north flank of the fire in in the Hihium Lake area has been the most active part of the fire recently, and yesterday airtankers, skimmers, and bucketing helicopters worked the area to quell fire behaviour.

Structural protection crews are conducting assessments and protecting values.

Today's weather is anticipated to be a repeat of the preceding day, but with no precipitation expected.

The public is reminded this fire is still out of control, and areas within the perimeter are very dangerous. An area restriction has been put in place, in an effort to keep crews and the public safe, and to allow the BC Wildfire Service to continue suppression efforts in an efficient manner.

Smoky conditions may prevail throughout the area.

The BC Wildfire Service is working closely with other agencies in an effort to protect life, property and critical infrastructure.
