In Focus is our gift to the community. A way for us to help show our recognition for the people, businesses and organizations that help make our city great. The team at is passionate about this community and the people that make it amazing. We want to show our friends, neighbours, family and colleagues that we notice them and the fabulous things that they do.

What do you always find yourself saying?
Our team motto is "Lift your spirits"

If you could spend one whole day with anyone in the world who is currently alive, who would you select and why?
Dr. Don McKenzie. I would thank him for having researched and promoted mental and physical health benefits of dragon boat paddling post- breast cancer.

If you were to receive any existing public award, what award would you like to win?
Instead of an award, would greatly appreciate it if city council put in a dock where we could launch our dragon boat instead of standing in water for members to board!

If you could spend a day with any historical figure, who would you choose and why?
There are so many courageous and fun people, it is too hard to choose!

Who inspires you?
The women on the team are a constant source of inspiration.

What are three things on your bucket list?
Support finding a cure for all cancers
Participate in International Breast Cancer Survivor Dragonboat Festival in Italy (2018- and looking for team sponsors)
Appreciate every day of health, friendship, fitness and fun!

If you had an enormous yacht, what would you name it?
Spirit Warriors Too!

If you could foresee a single day of your future in its entirety, what date would you select?
When we get to meet all the other teams competing in Italy!

What are you passionate about?

What has been your favourite day of your life, up to this point?
There are so many but for this piece, it would have to be the day the founding women in Kamloops started the Spirit Warriors team.

What has been your proudest accomplishment?
Every practice and race coming off the water is a proud accomplishment!

Where is your favourite place to dine in Kamloops? What do you like about it?
We enjoy sponsorship from Swiss Chalet as well as fund-raising from the Fox and Hounds Pub so those are our favourites!

What is your favourite activity or event in Kamloops? Why?
Participating in the Kamloops Dragon boat Festival during Ribfest first weekend in August and sharing our passion with our families and friends!

What does your business/organization do?
Train and practice Dragonboat racing as a way to support each other post-breast cancer - it is a great way to share friendship, fun and fitness!

What is your mission?
To provide individuals who have had breast cancer better opportunities to regain control of their lives. Increase fitness levels and general well being thus, challenging each member physically and mentally. Develop a strong support group especially in the event of cancer recurrence. To in still pride in our accomplishments and move forward with our lives. Promote public awareness of the role of exercise and healthy lifestyle in preventing breast cancer and lymphedema. Provide awareness in the community that breast cancer survivors can lead rich and fulfilling lives thereby being a strong role model for our daughters and other women with breast cancer. To compete as a Breast Cancer Team in Festivals with Carnation Ceremonies. Assist in broader based fundraising campaign activities and community events in an effort to eradicate breast cancer.

If you could achieve one thing within your field, what would it be?
Having a dock would make our love bed as dragon-boaters so much easier!

Where do you want your business/organization to be in five years?
Firmly established as a recognized sports team with sponsors and considered as important ambassadors for Kamloops.

Who do you consider to be a forerunner within your field?
Don McKenzie and all the people who participate in dragon boating.

What three qualities do you feel that your business/organization exemplifies?

What would you like to say to your employees/volunteers?
Thank you for all you do in supporting the many people diagnosed with breast cancer who contact our team members as well as those who make it out to practices and races come rain or shine (and racing boats that swamp our boat with waves.

How does your business/organization impact the community?
We provide volunteer services during many breast cancer awareness events as well as individual support. We help with rediscovering life-affirming possibilities after diagnosis, surgery and treatments. We provide faces and stories of hope and proof of quality of life following shattering news.

If you were trapped in an elevator with several wealthy investors from any field, which field would you want them to be experts in? What would say to them/talk about?
Anybody with an open heart and financial support for our team!

If I could change one thing about Kamloops, it would be:
See comments about getting a dock for our team. And many other boaters in Pioneer Park.

What do you think makes Kamloops great?
Opportunities to spend time outdoors all year round!
